Beauty Box 5.0: Using Final Cut Pro's Face Tracker and Beauty Box to retouch skin

In Final Cut Pro 10.6 you can now automatically track faces! (and objects too, but in this tutorial we're just going to track faces).This can be used to do more complicated skin retouching on your videos. In this tutorial we use Digital Anarchy's Beauty Box to add a layer of digital makeup.

Beauty Box has it's own mask based on skin tones, but this can be combined with FCP's face tracking to isolate one person in a video with multiple people or any situation where other areas of the video are being effected by Beauty Box that you don't want effected.

Beauty Box 5.0: Improving 4K Footage with Skin Detail Smoothing

In this tutorial we do a deep dive into the Skin Detail Smoothing parameter, especially as it relates to 4K footage. Watch to learn how to tweak the plugin default settings - which are set for HD - so you can get better results when applying smoothing skin on highter resolution (4k, 8k, etc) video.

The tutorial also shows tips on setting the Skin Detail Smoothing parameter to a negative value. this is not recommended in most cases, but can have a big impact when editing 4k footage.

Beauty Box 5.0 can retouch skin while maintaining real-time playback on 1080p footage on most machines, and real-time playback or close to it on 4k footage on faster machines. Render speed does depend on a lot of factors, like the GPU speed of your computer, the resolution of the footage, having other effects applied, and the host application you’re using.
